HOW TO HELP

Annual Report 2003

Providing Real Inclusive and Desirable Employment (PRIDE)

PRIDE is a program for people with disabilities who are seeking full or part time jobs. With one of our placement specialists, we will develop a future plan for clients — their preferences about a job and a career, any further training as appropriate, any accommodations they might require on the job, etc. Clients may also discuss with our staff some strategies for approaching an employer about their disability, their rights in the workplace environment, including a company's hiring procedures, how the vocational rehabilitation system works, what a Ticket To Work means, etc.

As an Employment Network in the Social Security Ticket To Work program, as well as a service provider for DHS' Office of Rehabilitation Services, CDR has worked hard to develop a consumer-oriented project. Staff is strongly motivated to work with clients to develop an Individual Plan for Employment (IPE), to place them in an internship, and to find appropriate, inclusive and desirable employment for them. The Ticket To Work referral system has brought over hundreds of people to CDR in the last two years. We want to provide services that will help them become as financially secure and independent as possible, as well as help them to be included in the life of their community.

Knowing your rights is the easy part. Exercising them can be a bit trickier.
